Day 4 – Small Circuit
Today we enjoy a half day city tour through this very characteristic city. Pick up at your hotel. We drive first on Av. Exequiel Bustillo, bordering Lake Nahuel Huapi. We make different stops to admire the landscape until we get to the foot of “Cerro Campanario”. Here you can opt to buy the liftchair ticket to go to the top and observe the different lakes, islands and peaks surrounding the area. We continue driving to get to Llao Llao Peninsula, where the historical Llao Llao hotel is located. We return to the city center crossing bridges over lagoons and rivers.

Optional Excursion Recommended: Victoria Island and Myrtle Island After an hour of navigation, departing from Puerto Pañuelo, we arrive at the Quetrihue peninsula, the seat of the Arrayanes Forest, located in the northeast of Lake Nahuel Huapi. The Arrayan (Quetrihue in the Mapuche language) is a saffron-colored shrub with white flowers. In this place, unique in the world, it takes on the size of a “tree” to form a magical and unusual Forest. Then we sail to Puerto Anchorena, Victoria Island. Letting yourself be carried away in time, walking the paths that reach Playa del Toro, to discover the cave paintings made by the indigenous peoples of this area, within the framework of a splendid volcanic sand beach, is an unforgettable and magical experience.
After breakfast we transfer to Puerto Pañuelo passing by Lake Nahuel Huapi. On route we will be marveled by the beautiful Swiss-style architecture that characterizes the constructions of the area. Beautiful gardens and flowers color the landscapes all the way to Puerto Pañuelo. Around 10.00 AM we will start sailing from Puerto Pañuelo to Puerto Blest aboard the Gran Victoria, navigating across Lake Nahuel Huapi, where we will be able to observe the grandeur of the landscapes and the green tones of the forests. Upon arrival to Puerto Blest we travel by bus along River Frías to Puerto Alegre, and then we continue sailing across Lake Frías, aboard the Victoria del Sur. Along this stretch of the lake, we will experience beautiful views of Cerro Tronador. After a short sail, we arrive to Puerto Frías where we will complete the necessary steps at the border. Then we continue by bus to Peulla with beautiful views of the Andes Mountains and after we sail again to Petrohué, navigating across Lake Todos los Santos. If the weather permits, different and breathtaking views of the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes and Cerro Tronador can be seen. Then we continue to Puerto Varas, passing by Lake Llanquihue. Impressive views of Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes dominate the landscape. Then we transfer to our hotel in Puerto Varas.

After breakfast we will start a new adventure where we will be able to see an active volcano, renowned for its perfect formation, and the famous Petrohué Waterfalls, both important landmarks in Southern Chile. A lake originating from a glacier and an active volcano, famous for its perfectly shaped crater, are the two attractions we will visit today. The tour starts on the southern shores of the Llanquihue Lake, where we will learn about the German settlers and agriculture in the zone. Once in the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, we enjoy the imposing Petrohué Waterfalls, which stun visitors with their turquoise waters. From there, we will go on to the origin of the Petrohué River, Todos los Santos Lake, where we will visit some of its sleepy beaches. By then, we will be at the foot of the Osorno Volcano to enjoy a lunch (non included) in the village of Ensenada, before continuing up to the ski resort on the volcano. On our way back to Puerto Varas we will be stunned by the panoramic views of the Petrohué River valley and the beautiful Llanquihue Lake

Today we will visit Torres del Paine National Park, World Heritage by the UNESCO (United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization). In this adventure through Chilean lands, it has as its main attractions the Mirador del Lago Sarmiento de Gamboa, Saltos del Río Paine, Upper Mirador Cerro Almirante Nieto, Cuernos del Paine, Entrance of Laguna Amarga. Once inside Torres del Paine National Park, we are ready to start with the different trekking trails. Where, accompanied by our local experts, a lunch box is provided. Then we will continue exploring and knowing the southernmost part of Patagonia, we will learn about its flora and fauna. Then we return to Puerto Natales.

Adventure Supplement: Trek to Viewpoint las Torres in Torres del Paine National Park We will leave Puerto Natales and head north towards the Torres del Paine National Park. After a 2-hour trip, we will reach the Estancia Torres del Paine, the starting point for our hike. First, our guide will give a short presentation, and then we will begin hiking on the trail that will take us to an old bridge that crosses the Asencio River. After a one-hour hike, we will arrive at the El Chileno Campsite shaded by a breathtaking lenga tree forest, crossing numerous springs cascading from the Almirante Nieto Mountain. We will make a short stop and then continue on our way to the next lookout point at an altitude of 700 meters (2,297 ft.). From here, the trail will get steeper and a half an hour later we will reach the Las Torres Base from the eastern side of the lagoon. Here we will have a stunning view of the three towers (Central, Monzino, and Dagostini) and the Peineta and Nido de Cóndores Mountains, if the cloud conditions allow it. With this view as our backdrop, we will have some time to rest. We will return on the same trail until reaching the starting point, where we will go back to Puerto Natales by vehicle. *Reaching the Las Torres Base lookout point depends on the physical conditions of the participants and current weather conditions.

Optional Excursion Recommended: Balmaseda and Serrano Navegation The trip will start in Puerto Natales and on our way, it will be possible to see the buildings that belongs to “Frigorífico Bories” which was one of the biggest meat industries in Patagonia. You can also observe an imperial cormorant colony, a small sea-lions colony and a huge variety of plants that form the flora such as coigüe, cinnamon tree, lenga, ñirre and the calafate. Balmaceda Glacier can be seen from the boat while for Serrano Glacier, a 20 minutes’ walk is necessary, through a path that borders a small lake that appears with the melting glacier. On our way back, we will have a typical Patagonian lunch in a farm in “Última Esperanza” bay.
At the indicated time we transfer to the bus station in Puerto Natales (Rodoviario) to take the bus that will take us to El Calafate. Upon arrival at El Calafate´s bus terminal a transfer will be waiting for us to take us to our accommodation.

Rancho Aparte experience will allow you to savor home-cooked meal in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The dishes are prepared with local products and a ubiquitous ingredient in homemade food…lots of love! The menu is accompanied by selected wine pairings from Argentine and Patagonian wineries. Therefore, with each course we respect the aromas and flavors in a harmonious and palatable way. We have four fixed menus; two of them “traditional”. They are based on regional cuisine and adapt the local products to a journey of unforgettable flavors. The other two menus are “vegetarians or vegans”. They are designed so that those who choose this type of food can also enjoy this experience, where most of the ingredients used are selected from organic farms in the area.
We dedicate this day to one of the World’s Natural Wonder: the Moreno glacier. This ice field- type glacier flows down from the Patagonian Icefield, a big sheet of ice that with its 22.000 square kilometers is the third largest glacier area in the world, after Antarctica (14 M sq km) and Greenland (1 M sq km). Because unusual favorable local conditions, this glacier is the only one in the world that shows a closure and rupture process. The road leads to the very front of the glacier, which will be only meters away from your eyes. The roar of the chunks of ice falling inside the glacier or from the glacier into the lake, the frequent collapse of the front seracs into the turquoise water, makes out of this day a very special and unique experience. Then we wil go up to “Bajo de las Sombras” from where, you will board the catamaran boat to navigate the Lago Rico where your will be able to appreciate the amazing ice wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier and its icebergs. Then we go back to our accommodation in El Calafate.

The excursion begins at 7.00 AM from El Calafate. We take the mythic Route 40, that goes along the Argentino Lake up to La Leona River. We will pass by the canyon with the same name, Cañadón La Leona, and after 1.15-hour ride we will arrive to the ancient route hotel “La Leona”, almost a museum of the Route 40, where you can have coffee and cakes. Our trip continues along the Lake Viedma, from where we will have magical views of glaciers, hidden lakes and the overpowering presence of the Mount Fitz Roy. We will make some photo stops at the viewpoint of the Viedma Glacier and Lake and after a 3 h ride we will arrive to this andean village called “The Capital of the Trekking”. As soon as we arrive at El Chalten we make another stop at the National Park Interpretation Centre. Once at Chalten, the activities will continue according to the option booked.
At the indicated time we transfer to El Calafate Airport to take our flight to our next destination: Ushuaia. Upon arrival we transfer from Ushuaia Airport to the Hotel in the city center. The rest of the day is free do optional excursions or to visit the city center.

After breakfast we walk to the turistic pier to start the excursion. We will star toward Alicia Island, where we will find a colony of South American sea lions. Then we sail to Bird Island to watch king shags and imperial shags living close to their nests, and from spring through fall we can even find their breeds. Again, we head east towards another small island that, depending on the season, we can view South American fur seals. Very close to this island is Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, an authentic symbol of Ushuaia, built in 1919. From there we have a view of the island where rock shags live. On our way back to Ushuaia, we disembark at Bridges Island to walk along a path for the interpretation of wildlife, while listening to the history of the native inhabitants, the Yamanas. On this island, we can find the largest Yamana’s “concheros” (shelly deposits) of the region. As this is the largest island, we reach the highest panoramic point from which we can enjoy amazing views of the Beagle Channel with the town of Ushuaia in the distance. During the trip, we offer coffee with liquor, different types of tea, a delicious hot chocolate with biscuits and cookies and, of course, the typical Argentine beverage, the mate.

Leaving the city of Ushuaia, heading southwest, we will travel the national route No. 3, towards Tierra del Fuego National Park. After crossing the Pipo River bridge, next to the Ushuaia Golf Club, we will arrive at the station of the Austral Fueguino Railway, the End of the World Train. where we will get on board one of the most magical trains. Along the road surrounded by Lenga forests and peat bogs, we will arrive at Lake Acigami (formerly Lake Roca), a lake of glacial origin, framed by mountains and forests, where it is possible to spot specimens of native birds. The last section of the tour takes us to Bahía Lapataia, after crossing the cormorant archipelago, peat bogs and a visit to a beaver dam. In Bahía Lapataia, in addition to the marine coast, rich in mollusks and mussels, we will find vestiges of the ancient aboriginal people that inhabited the region. There we will have time to walk the walkway from which we can take pictures and enjoy the feeling of being at the end of the world. Then we will return to our accommodation in Ushuaia.
